  • What’s your photography style?
I class myself as a documentary style or candid photographer. Basically I'm there to capture the magic as it happens and not to force anything.
  • Do you offer engagement sessions, too?
Yes! I offer both individual engagement sessions or as part of your wedding package.
  • Do you work alone, or do you bring a second photographer?
I'm a solo shooter but having been a second to a good friend for a number of years, I understand the importance of bringing a second shooter along and will happily make plans to bring someone as a second if you want me to.
  • Why do I need a second shooter?
While you don't need a second shooter, they can be handy to have at your wedding. A second shooter is able to capture moments while I am otherwise engaged, for instance they could be with the groom's party, while I'm with the bridal party, etc.
  • Do you travel for weddings?
I do! I live in East Yorkshire and I'm happy to travel pretty much anywhere in the country. I don't charge any extra for travelling within two hours. I've done weddings in Lincolnshire, Rugby, York, Doncaster, even one in Yeovil years ago when first starting. I love visiting everywhere I can.
  • Can you help us plan our wedding day timeline?
I can certainly offer advice, but won't be pushy on anything.
  • Can you work with our videographer?
I love meeting and working with new people. I'm more than happy to work with a videographer!
  • How long do you stay at the wedding?
That depends on each wedding, but usually I will work 9am - 9pm.
  • Why do you love wedding photography?
There's something so pure about a wedding, I'm a little bit of an old romantic and love seeing people make commitments to each other. I didn't think I would like it at first, but as soon as I went to my first one, I fell in love with capturing the moments and seeing the emotion.
  • If you weren’t a wedding photographer, what would you be doing?
I think I would still be doing something creative. I come from a family that run a small business, but before that, my mother when growing up was in a band herself (and was on TV!), so I think my passion comes from her side of the family, she was always trying to pass on her musical talents and it's why I also have a love of music too, playing the violin in school, piano (very badly) and now the guitar (even worse than the piano).
  • Do you have a favorite wedding song?
I have several but the ones that stand out for me are "John Legend - All of Me" which was two very good friends of mine first dance song. Others include, "INXS - Mystify" and one which I would like to be played at my own wedding "Skerryvore - Take My Hand".
  • Can I give you a Pinterest board of photo ideas?
Sure! I prefer not to pose people, but if you really want an image you've seen, we can try to recreate it.
  • Do you offer consultations before the wedding?
I'll happily meet for a coffee to see if you want to work with me, no offence taken if not. If you're further away than two hours, or nothing lines up then I'm happy to do a zoom call and can be contacted as many times as you feel the need before your big day.
  • Do you scout the venue beforehand?
Generally I will take a look online if I've never shot there before. I'll also check a drone flight website to see if a drone is permitted.
  • What happens if we elope—can you come too?
    I would love to!
  • How do you approach photographing non-traditional or LGBTQ+ ceremonies?
I understand that while it might be a cliché, every wedding is unique. I've had the pleasure of shooting a few LGBTQ+ weddings before and love being part of their day, I tailor everything to the couples needs.
  • What’s the best time of day for outdoor photos?
The golden hour (hour before sunset) is usually the best time for newly wed photos, the light is softer than the rest of the day and you get a lovely warm glow that looks great in the photos.
  • Do you offer videography or just photography?
I only offer photography at the moment. Videography is something I intend on doing in the future but not 100% confident with it and as such wouldn't wish to offer it as part of a package.
  • We really like your work, but not sure you're right for us.
That's totally fine. Everyone is different and I'm more than happy to recommend some photographers in my local area if you wish.
  • Your prices seem fairly low, why is that?
I'm just starting out as a main photographer, having done secondary shooting for a number of years now, so my prices reflect that I could be considered a relative newcomer to main photography. To date of writing this FAQ, I've shot about 30 weddings a second and 5 as a main.
  • What time do you usually get to a wedding?
Depending on travel time, I normally start at 9am and will work until 9pm. The earliest I've started before is 8am and the latest is 11:30pm!
  • Do you take detail shots of the decor, flowers, and rings?
I do! I secretly love taking those pictures, they create the story and show the uniqueness of your wedding.
  • Will you tell us how to pose?
Not unless you ask me to. I prefer to see everyone as they naturally are. I'm more than happy to give you helping hints, but I won't be moving you around like a marquis doll
  • Can you include our pets in the photos?
Yes please! I love animals. I have a cat at home called Smudge. Animals are a joy to be around.
  • Do you eat the food at the reception? (Be honest!)
A meal is always appreciated but never expected, I'll never turn the food away.
  • Do you take formal family portraits, or is it all candid?
Family portaits and formal pictures are a big part of the day, I will happily be taking those pictures too.
  • What happens if Uncle Bob shows up with his camera?
That's totally fine for me. If you are okay with him taking photos too then I don't mind, but during formals, I'll politely ask everyone to look at my camera for the pictures so everyone is looking the same way.
  • How do you make sure we get all the must-have shots?
I'll have a shot list that we can speak about before the day so I'm sure I know which pictures you want.
  • What’s in your camera bag? (Besides snacks!)
Lots of boring photography things, lenses, camera wipes, spare batteries, SD cards and a little keychain of my grandma's tartan (Baird) to remind me of why I love all of this.
  • How do you manage group photos with our big family?
I'm sure I can stand as far back as needed, I also have a drone that comes in handy for moments like this.
  • How do you survive an entire day with a camera in hand?
I ache the next day! But usually the adrenaline is more than enough to get me through (that and snacks).
  • What’s your approach to photographing shy couples?
I understand how hard it can be to be infront of a camera, I try to keep things light hearted and to focus on you enjoying your day. If you are struggling, I'm more than happy to show you a picture and then if you don't like it, we can delete it, or take another one etc. It's your day, I'm just there to capture the memories.
  • Will you tell us if our hair is out of place?
Of course! I'll let you know if there are any wardrobe malfunctions (discreetly so not to draw attention).
  • What happens if the schedule runs late on the day?
Nothing will ever be fixed in stone, plans change, often last minute and I'll adjust to help you. If your speeches run a little too long, then we'll push the cake cut back etc.
  • Do you have a favorite wedding photo you've taken?
I have several but yes I do have one that I'm extremely fond of.
  • Do you have backup equipment in case something breaks?
I will always be at a wedding with two cameras, plus extra lenses and memory cards. I was a scout growing up and try to always be prepared. My car has slowly accumulated emergency wedding supplies, plasters and wet wipes being the important ones (besides energy drinks and snacks).
  • What kind of equipment do you bring to a wedding?
I primarly shoot on Nikon Z6ii & Z6iii cameras and will bring along a few different lenses. Other equipment includes flashes & some lights (just simple light sticks rather than soft boxes) and a DJI mini 3 pro drone.
  • Do you join in the dancing at the reception?
I can neither confirm or deny there being photos of me dancing at a wedding. (yes, there are)
